Caregiving involves addressing the physical, emotional, and social needs of those in care, ensuring their well-being and quality of life. This role can be fulfilled by family members, friends, or professional caregivers and covers tasks such as managing daily activities, administering medication, coordinating medical appointments, and offering emotional support.
Whether it’s a parent caring for a child, an adult looking after an elderly relative, or a professional providing specialized care, caregiving is a multifaceted responsibility that requires patience, empathy, and dedication. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the health, happiness, and dignity of those who need support across various stages of life.
Being a Caregiver myself I want to provide access to experts, share resources and build a community so that we all know the right questions to ask, what services and assistance are available and how to find them.
As a Family Caregiver, over the past 8 years, I’ve found myself navigating problems I never saw coming. I’ve been through COVID pneumonia, memory loss, surgeries, selling houses, and making the tough move into a retirement facility. It never seems to get any easier. I have realised that so many adult children around me are going through the same trials, yet nobody really talks about it. We all struggle with the same care issues, with limited resources available.
I’m a ordained counsellor, facilitator and advocate for caregivers and specialise in the counselling and empowering of caregivers, leadership of institutions and businesses, because I believe the more adaptable and flexible we are, the more quickly we can move and change in a world where change happens faster each day.
The Caregiver’s Counsel was born to provide information and resources, and more importantly, to be a Faith based “safe “community where members can ask questions and get counsel on caregiving issues, meet other Caregivers, get resources, join workshops, and follow courses on how to be an Empowered Caregiver, or just vent.
As I’ve learned more about being a Caregiver, I’ve discovered that there are a lot of services and providers to help in this stage of life, but as “carers” we don’t even know what we need, what’s available, what they’re called or how to find them and at The Caregiverscounsel , we want to be the bridge to help make the connection.
It’s easy to feel like you’re the only one going through the different stages of Caregiving, but you’re not alone.
